Newsletter - No. 8 / November 2011

Dear Madam or Sir,

GE-Research develops and produces FPGA based development systems since years and has a wide experience with IP development. One of the main focuses is the PCI Express Know-how. GE-Research developed an own PCI Express IP and a set of tools around the Intel ATOM und Nvidia Tegra2, mainly to optimize the data transfer between processor and FPGA via PCIe.
The Volksanalyzer (German for "people's analyzer") is a range of test and measurement tools, developed by Gleichmann Research. The purpose of the Volksanalyzer program is to make expensive technologies affordable for engineers in their daily business.

The following Volksanalyzer products are available:
  • JTAG / Boundary Scan Analyzer
  • PCI Express Protocol Analyzer
  • PCI Express Performance Meter
Briefly GE-Research will offer an one day PCI Express training. Here the deeper details of the protocol will be explained, what is necessary to get a communication started, how to measure what happens. In addition it will be explained how to adapt the analyzer and how to handle the system. Interested? Please contact us.

For less than 3.000 € the customer gets a PCI Express Protocol Analyzer, which analyzes a stored data stream. The protocol will be displayed clearly arranged with all details, which allows seeing the behavior of the PCIe IP and the answer of the remote partner. A clever zoom function guarantees an excellent overview. It's also possible to switch off not required data and details. Different filter functions make it possible to concentrate on the essential details. The tool is easy to handle and understand.

The following facilities of data sampling are available:
  • Data of a simulation (e.g. ModelSim)
  • Direct tap on a soft- or hard IP
  • Data sampling via an adapter
New updates available (Hpe_desk basic v4.0)

AMBA-IP-Manager improvements:
  • Fixed a problem with the pinning assignment for bit_vectors of length 1
  • Improved the startup time of the AIM tool
  • Add SPI master IP core: spi_ger_v1.
  • Add the IP core ahb_tbmaster_ger_v1. Using this core allows to simulate IP cores using Mentor Modelsim.
  • Support computed AIM generic values(e.g. set generics depending on the selected pinning or on the used board)
  • Support generation of Multi-AHB systems
  • Support interconnection vector inputs (e.g. to monitor several IP cores)
  • Bugfix: pof file download of files in c:\Program Files\... on Windows7 is working now
Application improvements:
  • Allow to break python scripts with Ctrl-G
  • Upgraded matplotlib to v1.0.1
  • The PyShell history is now persistent across sessions
